Here will be the dailies of a relaxing, wine drinking, traveling, yoga-doing, coffee loving, nomading, art-enthusing 21-year-old who is on a voyage with an uncertain destination. I would mark myself a very curious person. Both in the sense that I am an odd-ball, and in the sense that I can’t get enough exploring and learning to keep me still… its an epidemic. Now lets get down to the nitty gritty…
My name is Monica Taylor and I am a Southern Girl who has spent her ‘important years’ growing up in Beaumont, TX. Sadly, I don’t wear a cowboy hat or ride a horse to school, BUT I do own a pair of cowboy boots and will always have a soft spot for Country music.
Currently I am a studying Art History and Italian Language at The University of Texas in Austin. I, being a woman of sound mind and heart, am a perfect example of a 21-year old girl who is not quite sure of what she wants out of life, and isn’t afraid of traveling around till she finds it. In the past year and a half I have traveled to 14 different countries and lived abroad in Italy- all on a student’s budget, a resturant salary and on my quest for self-discovery. My Mom, who I often times think gives horrible advice, really nailed this one on the head: What is one more year in college? You have the rest of your life to be a grown up, you do not have to earn your degree “the right way”, earn it “your way”. So that’s exactly what I did. After studying abroad for a semester in Florence and falling in love with Italy, I dropped out of TCU, and became a full time student in Florence- Perché non? and I, all to literally, took Mark Twain’s advie to heart:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
So after a year and a half abroad, I decided to move to the vibrant city of Austin, TX to finish out my degree at UT. I have come back after discovering culture, art, friends, experiences and love- and life is no longer the same. I see with knew eyes.
I opened Certainly Curious to share my dreams, to catalogue my adventures,to share the lessons I’ve learned on culture and self discovery, to give my opinion and to daily muse and rant.
So heres to enjoying the moment, learning everyday and loving without reservations. Explore. Dream. Discover.
